Unfortunately it seems her eye is bothering her more because she scratched it all up today. 😩 She has an appointment at the eye specialist next week but now we’re going to have to get it looked at sooner by our regular vet. Tomorrow will mark one week since Katy’s reconstructive surgery! She has spent the week getting lots of spa treatments (baths for her poopy butt that is still learning to work properly), eating only the finest cuisine (lots of yummy wet food helping her to gain over half a pound!), and learning to be a kitten (with her first toys ever). Katy goes back to the vet tomorrow for a recheck to make sure all is going well. As far as we can tell, everything seems to be good so far except for a bit of a diaper rash. UPDATE on our cutie patootie Katy: Katy had an appointment with Dr. Mullen yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately we won’t be able to wait for Katy to get bigger before having surgery. She cannot survive the way she is now and Dr. Mullen thinks there may be too much damage and scar tissue to have a good outcome if we wait until later. So Katy is having surgery TODAY. 😲 Please think about Katy today...we’re hoping she pulls through with flying colors. We have to admit, ECAR has been hit hard with expensive medical cases this past month. Besides Baba V’s surgery last week and Katy’s today (which will be about the same cost as Baba V’s), we also had a kitty who needed bilateral FHO surgery for a badly broken hip and a cat who required a leg amputation. Also, for those who may remember Neko and Redman, our kitties who needed eye surgery to help them see without pain, these poor boys both now need lip to eye reconstructive surgery (making eyelids for them using lip tissue) to help put a final fix on their complicated eye defects. Literally crying here at ECAR today. Meet Katy, Baba V’s slightly skeptical sister! After two weeks of searching we finally found her! Unfortunately, Katy has the same congenital defects that Baba V had. We have Katy set up to see the amazing Dr. Mullen tomorrow for an evaluation, so wish us luck that her rear end issues aren’t as severe as Baba V’s and maybe this time we can wait for surgical intervention until she’s a bit older and sturdier. Obviously this colony has genetic issues being passed along so we currently have humane traps set to get everyone fixed, especially Baba V and Katy’s mom. That way they can continue to live happily in their feral colony without making more babies! Fingers crossed we catch them all quickly! And please keep Katy in your hearts for a better outcome than her sister. It is with great sadness that we have to report that sweet baby Baba V passed away. We just received the news and we are devastated and heartbroken. 💔💔 Her little body fought as hard as it could but she just couldn’t fight anymore. We have to take comfort in knowing that she was very loved for the two weeks we had her and we did everything we could to try and save her. She was a very special baby who has left her paw print 🐾 on our hearts. RIP Baba V you were loved. ❤️❤️ Thank you to everyone who donated. It’s going to be hard to go and pay that bill and not see her beautiful face.
Just talked to doctor. Looks like Baba V might have pneumonia so she needs to stay in hospital on iv antibiotics and oxygen chamber. They want to give her 24 hours and reevaluate her to make a decision. We may lose her if she doesn't show improvement in the next 24 hours. On a good note, her back end is healing nicely. With these complications and now a longer stay in the hospital we are going to be well over our original quote of $2,400.00 so if anyone can donate towards her bill so we can give her a fighting chance we would be very appreciative!!! Baba V just got dropped off for surgery so we need prayers and positive thoughts sent her way!! She has been having some complications these last couple days so Dr. Mullen is going to do the best she can but she did let us know there is a chance that once she gets her under anesthesia and has a better picture of what is going on she may not be able to repair it and if that is the case we will not wake her up. We are hoping and praying for the best but are preparing for the worst. Our Director gave her lots of kisses before leaving her. Please help us give 6 week old Baba V a new lease on life!!! Baba V got dealt a bad hand.  When we first rescued her from a construction site last week, we noticed that she had 2 congenital eye defects. One, she has Microphthalmia (eyeballs abnormally small) and two, she has Eyelid Agenesis (eyelids did not form). Now, we’ve dealt with these 2 issues many times in past kitties so we were not worried about it. HOWEVER, upon further examination we discovered that she has a third congenital defect: she was born without an anus. 😿 She has a gaping hole where her anus should be (picture too graphic to show) which makes defecating a challenge. This is the first time we have seen this and we were discouraged about her fate. But this little one has put her claws into our hearts and we have vowed to do whatever we can for her.  She has such a strong will to live and we refuse to give up on her.  We took Baba V to a specialist yesterday and got some hopeful news.  The awesome surgeon she saw, Dr. Holly Mullen, has operated on kittens like her before and is optimistic that she can help Baba V. Baba V is scheduled for reconstructive surgery on May 24th. We are waiting on an estimate for the cost, but we are sure it won’t be cheap so we are begging for help. 🙏🙏 Let’s get this precious girl the surgery she needs to have a good quality of life. Meet Jellybean!! This handsome dude came to us in 2014 as a 7 week old kitten. At first glance he looked like a normal healthy kitten. However this guy started having labored breathing and during his vet exam and after chest x-rays it was discovered that he had a congenital heart defect and his heart was extremely large. His prognosis was not good so we decided to put him on lasix and place him with a hospice foster to live out what we thought would be a short life with love and affection. Fast forward to today, Jellybean is almost 4 years old and we are visiting the cardiologist to do more testing and to see if there are any other meds that can give him more time with us. As you know, specialty vets are expensive so we are reaching out to our supporters for help with his medical expenses. He is in having an Echocardiogram as we write this!! These babies were found in a wall of an apartment complex and brought to Petco today. They had extremely goopy and sealed shut eyes. We cleaned them up and started them on eye medication and then they ate like champs for us. While trapping feral cats for a spay/neuter clinic this little lady decided to give birth in her trap 😻 She was transferred into our queen/kitten cage at our nursery to take care of her babies until they can be weaned. We will then spay mom and return her to her colony and her babies will be adopted into homes.
